I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for a reply from the FS – witness the lack of response to earlier postings on this thread. The deafening silence could mean (a) they have no members left or (b) the few remaining members are too embarrassed to pull their heads out of the sand and DO SOMETHING to repair the damage done to their organization by Liebetter, Fibbin’ Phoney and other charlatans who still claim membership. If they want to save their society, they’d better act quickly; they are fast running out of time to rid themselves of the festering foulness that contaminates their body.

Colin,

The reason for posting was out of genuine curiosity to see what the Fingerprint Society is doing internally to change their image, and deal with those who have been found to bring the science into disrepute.

And I suspect you are right in that nobody will come forward and there will be some sort of ‘coup’ planned for the AGM in April next year. Nothing above board you understand in case anyone within the Society finds out about it!

I find it somewhat ironic the Society should issue a public questionnaire when they are unwilling to actually tell the public what is going on within the Society.

Why issue this questionnaire right in the middle of a Public Inquiry? Are they looking for the public to come back and give them the lever to oust the Chairman and the Editor in the very same way the SPSA is going to use the Inquiry Report to deal with those who need to be dealt with?

Try and deal with matters whilst at the same time absolving themselves of any blame.

From what I hear Colin the damage to the Fingerprint Society is irreparable.

And those who sat back and allowed it to happen have only themselves to blame.

Several times I asked someone to tell us what the current membership is compared to what it was.

Again deafening silence.

And that silence as you suggested will only get louder and louder…..

I found this on the Fingerprint Society website and wonder when Martin Leadbetter and Fiona McBride will abide by the Societies Code of Conduct especially in relation to Code 13?

http://www.fpsociety.org.uk/membership/rules.html

13. Reconsider and, if necessary, be prepared to change your conclusions, opinions or advice and to reinterpret your findings in the light of new information or new developments in the relevant field; and take the initiative in informing your client or employer promptly of any such change.

Of course if the Society was genuine about its future, immediately after the IAI findings in particular, they would have evoked Rules 13 or 15 against Martin Leadbetter and by default Fiona McBride.

13. Expulsion of Members
13.1 If at any time the Committee considers that the interests of the Society require it they must invite a member to resign from the Society, by a letter specifying the time before which the withdrawal should be made.
13.2 If the member concerned does not withdraw the Committee must submit the question of his/her expulsion to the Annual General Meeting or a Special General Meeting to be held within eight weeks after the date of the letter.
13.3 Not less than 14 days’ notice of the meeting must be given to the members.
13.4 The Secretary must inform the member in question of the time and place of the meeting and the nature of the complaints against him/her in sufficient time to afford him/her a proper opportunity of offering an explanation.
13.5 At the meeting the member must be allowed to offer an explanation of his/her conduct verbally or in writing and if after that more than half of the members present vote for his/her expulsion he/she will immediately cease to be a member of the Society.
13.6 The voting at any such Special General Meeting must be by ballot.

15. Suspension
15.1 If at any time the Committee consider that the interests of the Society require it they may suspend a member from the Society for a fixed period of time or until further notice.
15.2 A member who is suspended shall not during the period of suspension be entitled to any privileges of membership but may in accordance with Rule 13 attend any General Meeting at which his/her expulsion is sought.

Not sure if anyone can help but I have a vague recollection about a possible song relating to fingerprints. Something about 16-points? Does anyone have any such knowledge?

Perhaps there should be a re-release of a classic as a memorial to the SCRO and their supporters.

Chubby Checker (No pun intended, honest) and ‘The 66degree Twist’.

I’d buy it!

Taggart,

I believe the song you heard about was one I sang to an audience in London in 2000. It was written as a parody of Tennessee Ernie Ford's song "Sixteen Tons" and was sung to that tune.

Of course, I'm no great composer of classical symphonies the way Martin is, nor did I dedicate my song to Fiona (although some might imagine I did).

Anyway, here are the words:

SIXTEEN POINTS

Well, the SCRO were so haughty, they were acting so smug.
Counting sixteen points was the hole that they dug.
When along come a Cowboy, put their backs to the wall,
‘Cause they made a bad ident and they took the fall.

You count sixteen points and it's a nasty shock,
You made a bad ident, now your neck's on the block.
You ignored ridgeology, it's sad to say.
Your career's in a nosedive, that's the price you pay.

Well, I was born one morning in the drizzling rain
After ten years in the business doing things all the same
When I read Dave Ashbaugh and I saw the light.
So I changed my ways, now I'm doing things right.

You count sixteen points and it's a nasty shock,
You made a bad ident, now your neck's on the block.
You ignored ridgeology, it's sad to say.
Your career's in a nosedive, that's the price you pay.

Well, if the sweat pores ain't there, then you'd better pay heed.
Edgeoscopy, too, 'cause all these things you will need.
If you want to stick around for a whole career,
Then these words I'm saying you had better hear.

You count sixteen points and it's a nasty shock,
You made a bad ident, now your neck's on the block.
You ignored ridgeology, it's sad to say.
Your career's in a nosedive, that's the price you pay.

So don't be like the dinosaurs and just count points,
'Cause you may send some innocent folks to the joints.
Or you may miss the big one, let a killer go free,
All because you refused to use ridgeology.

You count sixteen points and it's a nasty shock,
You made a bad ident, now your neck's on the block.
You ignored ridgeology, it's sad to say.
Your career's in a nosedive, that's the price you pay.

Before I inject my tuppence allow me to state clearly that (1) I have no dog in the McKie vs FPS debacle, (2) I did not read this whole thread in detail so here are my opinions on the situation...

As a former FFS I found it difficult to keep my membership as I had to arrange banker's drafts to send my membership in GBP. It is likely that the FPS could be offering credit cards as an option by now as membership was current a number of years back.

I offer as a main argument the following question:

With the amount of information and people available in ever-increasing and ever-improving on-line resources, does a body such as this (or the IAI for that matter) really have the appeal it had two decades ago?

Maybe I am out of touch with what you folks are experiencing in the northern hemisphere but it is my humble submission that a certificate of membership and a journal might not be enough to keep existing members and attract new members in the internet age.

As said, purely my 2c worth...
Make a difference day by day, case by case. If you don't make a difference you don't count.

To All (remaining) members of the Fingerprat Society: How is the restructuring of your society proceeding? Sacked your Editor yet? In today's newspapers she is being described as a "Bloody-minded forensics officer" and has been told that she can't return to her old job - see:

I wonder if any readers can help.

I was having a look tonight at the Fingerprint Society website. It says on the main page the January Journal has been issued.

http://www.fpsociety.org.uk/

However the Journal is published four times a year.

http://www.fpsociety.org.uk/thejournal/index.html

FINGERPRINT WHORLD - ISSN 0951-1288
Quarterly (January, April, July, October)

Can anyone confirm if the April and July issues have been circulated?

Can anyone confirm if Fiona McBride is still the editor of the said Journal?

If she is, can anyone from the Society explain why the following has not been invoked given they evidence Miss McBride gave at the Fingerprint Inquiry under oath?
