Is anyone aware of a supplier of Synperonic N or a workable alternative that has been test for the fingerprint developing solution Physical Developer?

As far as I know, Synperonic N is no longer manufactured due to environmental reasons. I don't know if anyone has carried out any validation studies on alternatives for Synperonic N, but if you google it, there are alternatives out there. Good luck!

Thanks Diana! That is what I was afraid of. I've been searching all over. I have found several alternatives on conservation websites, but I am a little hesitant to buy them. Are you using PD? If so, are you buying the pre-made kits?

Anna, no, we don't use the pre-made kits. Also, we have a supply of Synperonic N that should last us awhile, so we have not invested the time into researching alternatives. I wish you the best, though!

I think that Polysorbate 80 is being used as a substitute. I think that there have been a couple of recent publication in the JFI with regard to physical developer that don't involve Synperonic N.

Thank you! We've tried out Oil Red, but prefered PD. I will look futher into Polysorbate 80.

Hi,

I received this formula from the Secret Service last year. It works pretty good, though you may have to adjust the amount of detergent if you don't have RO/DI water.

REDOX SOLUTION
30 g frerric nitrate
80 g ferrous ammonium sulfate
20 g citric acid
900 ml RO/DI water (we use twice distilled, filtered and di-ionized water)

DETERGENT SOLUTION
3 g n-dodecylamine acetate
3 ml Tween 20
1 L RO/DI water

SILVER NITRATE SOLUTION
10 g silver nitrate
50 ml RO/DI water

MALIC ACID SOLUTION
50 g malic acid
1 L RO/DI water

PD WORKING SOLUTION
900 ml Redox
40 ml Detergent
50 ml Silver Nitrate

Good luck
